Categorizing a Water Damage

7/14/2019 (Permalink)

When our crew gets to a water damage, they identify the extent of the damage by categorizing the risk and immediate threat the water poses.

Category

Water is categorized to describe how dirty and unsanitary the water is.

  • Category 1 - The source of the water is sanitary and it does not pose a risk. However, if left untreated, it could change categories and become unsanitary.
  • Category 2 - The water is significantly contaminated and it can cause a human to become sick if they come in contact with it.
  • Category 3 - The water is the most unsanitary and contaminated and contains harmful pathogenic or toxigenic agents.

Water is categorized not only for the safety of the homeowner but for our crew as well. By categorizing the water, it also allows us to use the proper chemicals and equipment to deal with the task at hand.
